The first day of spring is less than a month away, but you shouldn't pack away your parka quite yet.

AccuWeather just released its annual spring forecast and it sounds like most of the United States will be dealing with wintry weather for longer than we'd hoped. 😬 Depending on where you live, experts are warning that "the winter hits may keep on coming" long past March 20th.

Folks in the Northeast can expect more than just a few April showers, as a "stormy pattern" that is predicted to develop at the end of winter will carry over into the new season. AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dave Samuhel says the region will see "more or less a continuation of winter through the month of March." Yikes!

Spring weather will be slow to arrive in the Midwest as well, with more cold air forecasted to pass through the region over the next couple months. This may not come as a surprise after the sudden frigid weather brought on by the polar vortex in early February.

While the South has seen some unusual snow this winter, it's not likely that another cold spell will hit the area. "It's been a little chilly across the Gulf Coast," Dave said. "But it does look like things will warm up, and we'll have mild weather [lasting] into March."

Residents on the West Coast also shouldn't be concerned about seeing more storms this spring—but the new season could bring about long-term drought conditions. With minimal rain in the forecast, early heat waves will have many Western states feeling like they skipped straight to summer.

However, the central U.S. needs to be on the lookout for thunderstorms and other severe weather in late spring. "It's going to be a late start to the severe weather season, but it’s going to be incredibly active," said meteorologist Reed Timmer. "I think we’re going to be storm chasing a lot in April and May."

This could mean an interesting May 1 outdoor wedding on Drummond Ranch for Alex and Mauricio. As Ree says, it will be an adventure!
