Aces of Trades: Marion's Ohio Drain Doctors owner loves to learn
Logan Johnston is an entrepreneur with a passion to learn.
“As a kid growing up I was very interested in taking things apart to see how they functioned and how two different elements reacted to each other to create new things," recalled Johnston. "I never dreamed of being a drain cleaner or a business owner employing people.”
Today, Johnston owns and operates Ohio Drain Doctors LLC.
“We clean drains and repair or replace them when they’re unable to be cleaned or broken beyond repair,” he explained. “We pride ourselves on not having to sell anything. A customer calls for a problem and we show up to fix it. Honesty and integrity are our top priorities here at Ohio Drain Doctors LLC.”
Johnston was born and raised in Marion. He switched schools from Ridgedale to River Valley in the seventh grade and ultimately graduated from Rushmore Academy.
Then his entrepreneurial spirit kicked in. He bought Walt’s Rooter Service in 2018, Drain Keeper in 2019, and Drain Pro in 2020. Then he consolidated the three businesses into one.
“It was very difficult answering three different business phone numbers and explaining the sale and purchase of all the businesses to each individual customer," he said. "So, we decided to form a new company, Ohio Drain Doctors LLC, and just answer the phones under the new name. We officially became the Ohio Drain Doctors in January of 2022.”
“I didn’t have a specific career path before becoming a business owner,” Johnston added. “I just understood the value of hard work. I always worked as much as possible. I worked multiple jobs at the same time and loved staying busy as well as learning new things.”
His brother, Ron Carr, is also a co-worker.
“My experience with Logan and the Ohio Drain Doctors has been unlike any other opportunity I’ve had,” assessed Carr. “Logan cares about his employees and their future, and not only within the business. And the service standard is held very high.”
“One thing Logan has taught me,” Carr continued, “is there’s always a way to do anything, whether it’s a large repair or expanding the business to offer better, faster, cheaper solutions for our customers.”
“I’m very interested in how to best run a business in the service industry,” Johnston responded. “I like the inner workings on how different businesses operate and function. I like to push myself on a daily basis to get better at running a business, educating myself, and providing better service to my customers and the community.”
“I’m 28 years old with a lot of room to grow,’ Johnston concluded. “I can’t wait to see where this business takes me, all of the experiences I’ll get to have, and all the knowledge I’ll have the opportunity to learn.”
