Lockdown lifted after report of active shooter at Montana military base
A lockdown has been lifted after an active shooter situation was reported at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana on Thursday officials said in a news release.
The incident took place around 10.30am MST and the nuclear missile facility went into lockdown shortly after. Leadership at the base advised people nearby to shelter in place and implemented FPCON Delta, meaning that all activity on the base stopped except for security.
It appears that the incident took place at building 219. No shots were fired and no one had been injured, officials said. The reports stemmed from reports of a suspicious person on base being reported as an active shooter. The base is currently in a secure status.
“There is no threat to the public at this time,” a news release stated.
Earlier in the day, US Democratic Senator Jon Tester of Montana said: “I have spoken with base leadership about reports of an active shooter at Malmstrom Air Force Base and will continue to track this developing situation closely.”
Officials with the Great Falls Montana Police Department said they were providing support to the base and said the incident has been contained. Both the agency and the nearby school district said they were told about reports of an active shooter.
A shelter in place that had been issued for local schools was lifted in the afternoon.
