Active skies remain over Utah Saturday

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy weekend, Utah! It’s been a soggy start to the weekend as a trough of low pressure is slowly moving through the state.

After widespread showers on Friday, plan on isolated to scattered showers today with decreasing moisture this evening. The valleys will continue to see rain while our mountain areas will see snow showers, mainly above 8,000 feet. Temperatures will remain quite cool today for the state with most areas staying 10-15 degrees below normal. Temperatures in northern Utah will be in the 40s and low 50s today while southern Utah will mainly see 60s and low 70s. Winds will remain breezy statewide.

In the mountains, winter weather advisories remain in place over the Central and Southern Mountains through 6 p.m. this evening, several more inches of snowfall are expected today. In northern Utah, the winter weather advisory over the Wasatch Mountains south of I-80 and the Western Uintas will remain through 6 a.m. on Sunday. Additional snowfall of 3-6″ is expected for the northern mountain areas. The bulk of any moisture will clear out for Sunday with only a few isolated high elevation showers expected.

As we round out the weekend and begin next week, we’ll trend drier and warmer, however, with some lingering moisture and some energy coming in from the northwest, we’ll hold onto slightly unsettled conditions. Both Sunday and Monday will bring a slight chance of showers, mainly in northern Utah. By midweek, we’ll be looking at mostly quiet conditions and by Wednesday, daytime highs will be running about 5-10 degrees above average with most seeing 60s and 70s while St. George returns to the mid and upper 80s.

Bottom line?! Scattered showers stick around this weekend and a tough of low pressure slowly moves through the region.
