Actor Bert Belasco, Waubonsie Valley HS Alumnus, Dies At 38

AURORA, IL — Bert Belasco, a 2001 graduate of Waubsonie Valley High School in Aurora who starred in BET’s “Let’s Stay Together” sitcom, was found dead Sunday in a Virginia hotel room, according to various reports.

Belasco’s father, Bert Belasco Sr., told TMZ his son died after suffering an aneurysm, but his family is waiting for the results of an autopsy. Police in Henrico County, Virginia, do not suspect foul play in his death, according to a report by Variety.

Belasco was staying in the hotel room to quarantine before starting to film a new movie, according to his father.

Belasco moved to Naperville after being raised in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and New York City, according to his biography on the school’s website.

He received a Distinguished Alumni award from Waubonsie Valley in 2011, a decade after graduating. Belasco discovered his passion for acting at the Aurora high school after he was asked to portray actor Will Smith during an assembly, the biography states.

Belasco earned a degree in theater in 2005 from the Southern Illinois University at Carbondale two days before moving to Los Angeles to pursue his acting dream, according to the biography.

Along with his starring role in “Let’s Stay Together,” Belasco had roles in "House," “Pitch” and “Justified” and made cameos in numerous TV shows. He also starred alongside TV legend Betty White in a 2010 Super Bowl commercial for Snickers.
