A feature film based on a faith-based camp in Jacksonville that deals with troubled kids will have its premiere on Friday, with a former Superman on hand.

"Success Camp," which is based on a camp run by Jacksonville's Parent Help Center, makes its debut at 7 p.m. Friday at Parkwood Baptist Church on Lone Star Road in Arlington. Tickets are $11 and include a 6 p.m. VIP reception, a 7 p.m. open-seating screening of the film and a walk down the red carpet. Attendees are encouraged to "dress to impress."

Actor Dean Cain, best known for playing Clark Kent/Superman in the '90s TV show "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman," will serve as host for the event. Cain plays a judge in the "Success Camp" film. Glenn Ellison, CEO of the Parent Help Center, will serve as co-host. Actors Julianna Herrin, Braeden Sorbo, Samantha Glick and Shane Sorbo, who all appear in the film, are also scheduled to be on hand for the screening.

"Success Camp" is produced by JC Film Studios, a faith-based movie company that operates "production clubs" in more than a dozen U.S. cities, as well as in Australia, Uganda, Canada and the United Kingdom. The studio produces Christian-themed films, most of which star either Cain or actor Kevin Sorbo.

Jacksonville actor Dean Phillippi, who plays a parent in the film, said the studio is already working on another film, "Cancel Me Not," which will be filmed in Jacksonville.

"We need to bring the movie industry back here to Jacksonville, in a faith-based process," Phillippi said.

The film follows four families that bring their troubled children to the camp. "Success Camp" is fictional, but fact-based, Phillippi said.

The camp deals with troubled kids from around the country who are either sentenced by a judge or brought in by their families. Phillippi said that while researching his role, he met an 8-year-old who was sent to the camp after burning down his home and stealing a car. Kids might stay for a month or more at the camp and parents are expected to be on hand for at least the first weekend so they can learn how to deal with their children.

It's not a prison atmosphere, he said, but it's not a typical summer camp either.

"They don't handle you with kid gloves," Phillippi said. "You're told what to do and then you're going to do it."

"Success Camp," like other JC films, will be distributed through Pure Flix, which streams only faith-based and family friendly movies and TV shows.
