Actors on strike call for limits on artificial intelligence

Your favorite shows and movies are on hold as actors and writers from New York to L.A. to here in Atlanta, are on strike.

According to The Associated Press, union leaders say the streaming model that has taken over the industry in recent years has cheated actors of their share of income and funneled money to executives, and proposals of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which represents the studios, streamers and production companies in negotiations, did not even begin to meet their needs.

They’re calling for better working conditions and better wages, among other things.

One big thing they’re calling for is limiting artificial intelligence.

Channel 2′s Justin Farmer spoke with Dr. David Schweidel from Emory University on Channel 2 Action News at 4 p.m. Monday to discuss how AI is impacting the film industry.

“For actors very concerned about their image and voice being manipulated and others can make money without actor getting paid,” said Schweidel.
