WORCESTER — Less than six months after her parents were found dead inside their Tatnuck home, Worcester born and raised actress Alicia Witt has opened up about healing from a unilateral mastectomy.

Last week on social media, Witt candidly revealed she has "tested negative for any trace of remaining disease."

Addressing her health scare, Witt stated, “These last six months have been the absolute strangest I could ever have imagined. And amidst this, the biggest of blessings…The gratitude overrides any and all else.”

Professionally, 2021 was great year for the Worcester native. But personally, it was a rough time.

While she is best known as an actress, Witt — who made her acting debut in David Lynch’s “Dune” at the age of 7 — released an album, “The Conduit,” which she sings and plays piano, and a combination cookbook/memoir/lifestyle guide, “Small Changes: A Rules-Free Guide to Add More Plant-Based Foods, Peace & Power to Your Life.”

After finishing a 14-city album and book release tour at the end of October, Witt said, she returned to her home in Nashville, Tennessee, home to have a biopsy done on a lump on her breast that she detected several months earlier.

On Dec. 1, Witt had her first of six rounds of chemotherapy.

Obviously referencing in a roundabout way the international headlines of her parents’ deaths and subsequent investigation made, Witt posted, “…Given how public so much of my life is, I deeply wanted to share this when I was ready, and not before.”

Witt's parent, Robert and Diane Witt, were found dead in their house at 8 Sussex Lane in Worcester on Dec. 20, 2021, after police were called to help a relative check on their well-being. Robert was 87, Diane 75.
