Actress Stephanie Beatriz named grand marshal for 2023 Indy 500

Actress Stephanie Beatriz will serve as grand marshal for the 2023 Indianapolis 500, organizers announced Thursday morning.

Beatriz, best known as the star of Disney's "Encanto" and NBC comedic series "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," will tell drivers to report to their cars as part of the pre-race ceremonies, which broadcast on NBC beginning 11 a.m. race day, May 28. She will also walk the Indy 500 red carpet.

The actress is currently promoting her latest car-adjacent project: Peacock's upcoming "Twisted Metal," an action series based on the popular vehicular combat video game franchise.

Country star Blake Shelton served as grand marshal during last year's Indy 500. Other recent grand marshals include "American Ninja Warrior" hosts Matt Iseman and Akbar Gbajabiamila in 2019 and Hoosier Olympian Nick Goepper in 2018.
