Is it actually going to storm in Sacramento today? Your weather app could be wrong
Another round of scattered thunderstorms is in Northern California’s forecast and depending on where you are in Sacramento, your phone’s weather app told you to brace for it.
According to the IPhone’s weather app, there’s a 30% chance of thunderstorms around 4 p.m. Tuesday in the unincorporated areas of Sacramento including Arden Arcade and near Sacramento International Airport.
Don’t grab the umbrella just yet.
“There’s zero chance that will happen,” said meteorologist Chelsea Peters with the National Weather Service.
According to Apple, the technology company’s weather app uses location services to get forecasts for your current location. To increase the accuracy of the forecasts, turn on “precise location” in your phone’s settings.
Still, weather forecasts can be wrong.
According to the National Weather Service, weather in the Sacramento region is forecast to remain dry and sunny throughout the day Tuesday.
In Arden Arcade, temperatures could reach a high near 85 degrees and a low of 58 with winds between 7 mph and 9 mph. Weather near Sacramento International Airport is similar until Tuesday night.
Winds are expected to kick up between 10 mph and 14 mph with gusts as high as 18 mph.
Where are thunderstorms expected in Northern California?
Thunderstorms will begin again Tuesday afternoon and will mainly be isolated in the mountains, Peters said, potentially drifting into the foothills of the Sierra Nevada.
Expect heavy rain, lightning, hail and gusty winds.
There’s a 10% chance of thunderstorms in Redding and between a 10% and 15% chance in Chico. Even then the odds are great.
Scattered thunderstorms will impact portions of interior NorCal this afternoon & evening. The main threats will be heavy rain, hail, lightning & gusty winds. Be prepared to seek shelter if you have outdoor plans.
