Acuity Health Challenge in Sheboygan raises more than $10K to go toward medical services for abuse victims

SHEBOYGAN - Acuity Insurance, based in Sheboygan, raised more than $10,000 to benefit Aurora’s Medical Response Services for Abuse Victims via its 2022 Acuity Health Challenge.

In its 10th year, the Acuity Health Challenge featured a 5K or 2-mile run/walk. More than 450 people completed the challenge in person, which was held on Acuity’s campus at 2800 S. Taylor Drive in Sheboygan. Another 42 participants supported the event virtually.

In addition to the challenge itself, participants and spectators were welcomed to the event by Acuity’s Vendor Village, which hosted a variety of local vendors that helped sponsor goody bags given to participants of the challenge.

The 5K overall winners were, in the men’s division, Timmy Brey with a time of 15:29 and, in the women’s division, Miranda Cobb with a time of 22.36.

In addition to a goody bag and a custom race-day T-shirt, the Health Challenge also provided lunch to participants, which included bagel sandwiches, homemade granola bars from Fresh Meals on Wheels, sausage and cheese sticks from Old Wisconsin, and Acuity Executive Chef Mike Luedke’s strawberry soup.

► Sheboygan hospital named to U.S. News & World Report ‘Best Hospitals’ list: Aurora Health Care has announced that 10 of its adult hospitals in Wisconsin were named to the U.S. News & World Report “Best Hospitals” list.

Among those making the list was Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center.

The following Aurora Health Care hospitals were also named to the list: Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center, Aurora Medical Center-Grafton, Aurora Medical Center-Summit, Aurora Medical Center-Oshkosh, Aurora West Allis Medical Center, Aurora BayCare Medical Center, Aurora Lakeland Medical Center, Aurora Medical Center-Bay Area and Aurora Medical Center-Manitowoc County.

U.S. News & World Report evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide. Its methodology is based on measures of quality such as risk-adjusted outcome rates, volume, quality of nursing and other care-related indicators.

► Red Cross plans local blood drives: American Red Cross is planning the following local blood drives in August:

  • Aug. 1, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., at Mead Public Library, 710 N. Eighth St., Sheboygan;

  • Aug. 5, 12, 19 and 26, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., at Sheboygan Trades and Labor Hall, 1104 Wisconsin Ave., Sheboygan; and

  • Aug. 9, 12:30-5:30 p.m., Faith Reformed Church, 243, S. Fourth St., Cedar Grove.

► Sheboygan Pops Concert Aug. 3 to feature Lakeland University director of bands: Dr. Evan Chancellor will be the special guest performer at the Sheboygan Pops Concert Band Fountain Park concert Aug. 3.

Dr. Chancellor is assistant professor of music and director of bands at Lakeland University. He will perform the first movement of the Concerto No. 2 for Horn by Heinrich Domnich.

Other featured selections by the band include highlights from “Oliver!,” “Good Old USA” and “Big Band Polka.”

The free concert begins at 6:30 p.m. at Fountain Park, 1000 N. Eighth St., Sheboygan.

► Lakeshore Technical College open house set for Aug. 10: Lakeshore Technical College is hosting a “Level Up with Lakeshore” open house at its Cleveland campus Aug. 10. The public is welcome to attend and tour the campus any time between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

College representatives will be available to discuss career options, financial aid, student resources, credit for prior learning and application steps. Deans and faculty members will also be available to answer questions about new and continuing programs and courses.

LTC’s esports arena will be available for open play.

Registration is requested, but not required.
