Adam Sandler is coming, Boise. The popularity of his arena shows has been ‘insane’

Hollywood A-lister Adam Sandler has been so famous, for so long, that it’s easy to forget where he got his start.

Boise is about to get a hilarious reminder.

Sandler, 57, will headline an evening of stand-up comedy Sunday, Oct. 15, at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa. Tickets to the 7:30 p.m. concert become available to the general public at noon Friday for $39.50 to $169.50 through fordidahocenter.com. A “surprise guest” is slated to open the evening, which is recommended for mature audience members 16 and older.

This won’t just be Sandler reciting jokes into a microphone. As longtime fans know, he also plays guitar and sings ridiculous songs.

“It’s a night of comedy and music and entertainment,” explained Creston Thornton, president of promoter Live Nation’s mountain region. “And we’re just really excited to have the Sandman coming up to the Pacific Northwest.”

“We’ve been doing some shows with him,” Thornton said, “and they’ve been blowing out every arena we put him in.”

It makes sense. Old-school fans remember Sandler’s early days on “Saturday Night Live.” Or grin thinking about 1990s comedies such as “Happy Gilmore,” “The Waterboy” and “The Wedding Singer.” Others appreciate his dramatic acting chops in more-recent films such as “Uncut Gems” and “Hustle.”

Or maybe we’ve all just laughed watching him interact with Jennifer Aniston on those those silly “Murder Mystery” Netflix movies during the pandemic years.

As Wikipedia says: “Primarily a comedic leading actor in film and television, his accolades include nominations for three Grammy Awards, five Primetime Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award. In 2023, Sandler was awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.”

Oh, and heads up, “Happy Gilmore” buffs. Hockey sticks will not be allowed inside the Idaho Center arena.

Although, wait — Kevin Hart did carry a baseball bat onto that stage last year. So who knows?
