Creepy and kooky, mysterious and spooky, "The Addams Family," is coming to Westerville South High School's theater.

Matt Wolfe, Troupe 513 Westerville South director, said "The Addams Family" has been on the most-produced list of high school shows for almost the last decade and after years of avoiding the popular title, there is no doubt that this is the year for the heartwarming musical about a family that asks the question, "What is normal?"

Andrew Lippa, who wrote the show’s music and lyrics, visited Westerville South on Oct. 6, when the kids performed a few numbers for him.

Lippa moved to Columbus in 2017 and has been part of the theater scene as a staunch supporter of the arts, Wolfe said.

“Andrew talked with our cast and crew about his life, his accomplishments and gave some great advice to our students, reminding them that the toughest things in life are the most rewarding," he said.

"It was an inspiration to speak with him as we approach the final weeks of rehearsal and prepare for our audience.”

The show opens at 7 p.m. Oct. 20 on stage at Westerville South, 303 S. Otterbein Ave. It is to also be performed at 2 and 7 p.m. Oct. 22 and 2 p.m. Oct. 23.

Tickets cost $10 and can be purchased at the door or reserved online.

Junior Katy Mowery, who plays an ancestor, said the show has been special compared to others as the story is told through the quirks of each character.

“'The Addams Family' revolves around one family, and the way the ancestors fill in the story makes it more dynamic and full of life than any other show I’ve been a part of.”

Senior Peter Stoycos, who takes on the role of Gomez Addams, said the production will be very funny and enjoyable for audiences to watch.

“It does have its serious moments, giving the best of both worlds in its humor and tenderness,” he said.

Senior Ethan McFarland, who plays ancestor/conquistador, said, "The Addams Family" is a great show to see during the Halloween season. “Lots of great costumes, sets and fun singing and dancing,” he said.

“It is for all ages to enjoy a fun, spooky night at the theater.”
