CINNAMINSON, NJ — As 2020 wraps up, live indoor theater will return to the area, at Riverton Country Club in Cinnaminson.

The Moorestown Theater Company will produce its first musical inside since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic when it presents “The Addams Family” at Riverton Country Club in Cinnaminson, the theater company announced.

The first show is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday night in the ballroom of the country club, 1216 Highland Avenue. MTC had been performing shows in a parking lot, and that was the plan for “The Addams Family.”

Plans changed earlier this week when MTC Artistic Director Mark Morgan joined a Zoom call with the Burlington County Chamber of Commerce.

“They said to let them know if we need anything, and I said we could use a place to have our show,” Morgan said. “I didn’t want to do it in a parking lot.”

With good reason. It’s getting colder outside, and it rained all week. Fortunately for the MTC, Riverton Country Club General Manager Joe Mendez offered to help.

They were quickly able to set up a situation where MTC could stage their show in the country club’s ballroom, which has a capacity of 450 people. At 25 percent, MTC can have 100 people in attendance for each performance.

Audience members will have to wear masks, and temperature checks will be done at the door. Performers will wear clear face shields. It’s the same safety measures when they performed outside over the summer.

At the country club, families can sit together, but groups will be spaced apart. Anyone who is concerned about attending an inside event and would like to know more about the precautions MTC is taking can call MTC directly at 856-778-8357.

“We’re doing everything we can to comply and still have live theater,” Morgan said.

It will be the second production for MTC’s “Rising Stage” cast of young adults between the ages of 17 and 29. The first was “Godspell,” which was performed in August.

Moorestown’s Kevin Chamberlain was nominated for a Tony Award for “Best Featured Actor” for his performance as Uncle Fester in 2010. The musical, based on the Charles Addams’ newspaper cartoons, was also nominated for a Tony Award for “Best Original Score” that year.

Chamberlain shared a message and a special song with the cast before their opening night. He told the group, "I think it is so cool that you're keeping theater alive."

Morgan will direct “The Addams Family.” MTC Orchestra Conductor Gareth Haynes will be the vocal director, and Professional Performer Dante Brattelli will be the choreographer.

After Saturday, subsequent performances will take place as follows:

  • Sunday, Nov. 15: 2 p.m.

  • Thursday, Nov. 19: 7 p.m.

  • Friday, Nov. 20: 7 p.m.
