Who was added to the inaugural PGA Tour Champions event coming to Bradenton, Florida?

The rosters for the inaugural World Champions Cup are almost complete.

On Monday, the fifth members of Team USA, Team Europe and Team International were announced in a news release.

Peter Jacobsen, the tournament chairman, made his second chairman’s picks for each team. They are Justin Leonard, Robert Karlsson and Stephen Ames for Team USA, Team Europe and Team International, respectively.

The tournament, which is scheduled for Dec. 7-10 at The Concession Golf Club in East Manatee, is a PGA Tour Champions event airing on ABC and ESPN.

Each of the three teams competing consists of six players, which includes a playing captain. Those captains are Jim Furyk (USA), Darren Clarke (Europe) and Ernie Els (International).

The trio are previous major champions, while the tournament is inspired by the Ryder Cup and President’s Cup. Three days of competition will see the three teams compete in 9-hole stroke play matches under various formats, with a pro-am day slated for Saturday, Dec. 9.

The sixth and final team members will get announced at a later date and they will either be the top finisher on the Charles Schwab Cup standings or another chairman’s pick.

Team USA consists of Furyk, Steve Stricker, David Toms, Jerry Kelly and Leonard. Stricker and Toms were automatic qualifiers with Jacobsen selecting Kelly and Leonard.

Leonard won the 1997 British Open among his 12 PGA Tour victories and competed on three Ryder Cup teams and five President’s Cup teams.

His 45-putt at the 1999 Ryder Cup in Brookline, Massachusetts proved the decisive winning putt that capped a comeback for Team USA over Europe.

“I feel fortunate to have a guy like Justin on Team USA,” Furyk said in the news release. “Throughout his career, he has shown that he performs his best in the most high-pressure situations, and I know he’ll do the same when it comes time to battle Team International and Team Europe this December.”
