Addison Middle School teacher named Teacher of the Year by Lenawee County women's clubs
ADRIAN — Addison Middle School math and science teacher Deborah Davis was recognized as the 2023 Teacher of the Year by the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) of Lenawee County during the organization’s annual meeting in April at the Care Pregnancy Center of Lenawee in Adrian.
GFWC Lenawee has given the Teacher of the Year award to a Lenawee County teacher dating as far back as 1959, according to an announcement from the women’s club.
A plaque was presented to Davis signifying her dedication and service to Addison Community Schools for 28 years.
“She inspired us with success stories of working with and encouraging the students,” GFWC Lenawee’s announcement said. “Her love for horseback riding is worked into her teaching skills by rewarding her students with riding, taking care of the horses and the general joy of being comforted by these great animals. She also related math applications to everyday life and made it real by going to stores and businesses to learn how math fits into our lives.”
The meeting was a joint meeting between GFWC Lenawee and the Addison Woman’s Club. Lunch was enjoyed by all, the announcement said, and club presidents were honored.
GFWC Lenawee donated items to Care Pregnancy Center of Lenawee’s boutique and money toward its project of renovating its new building. CPC of Lenawee is at 308 N. Broad St. in Adrian. Its ministry is in the process of expanding to a Victorian house, adjacent to its office at 217 E. Front St.
A tour of the ministry’s facility was conducted, the announcement said, especially of the boutique, which is where parents can buy items for their children. Parents earn credits by attending classes and then are able to use the credits to buy needed baby items.
The annual meeting was attended by 20 women.
