🌱 New Addition To Birmingham Skyline + AL Restaurants Need Help

Morning, neighbors! It's me again, Kayla Harrison, your host of the Birmingham Daily.

First, today's weather:

Cooler; breezy in the p.m.. High: 46 Low: 21.

Here are the top 3 stories in Birmingham today:

  1. The Birmingham skyline will be getting a new addition — a Landing structure will replace the Shipt sign, which was sold to Target in 2017 for $550M. The landmark sign marks the completion of the company's relocation from San Francisco to Birmingham last year. This weekend the signs will be switched out this weekend on Saturday and Sunday. (Birmingham Patch)

  2. Alabama restaurants say COVID relief is needed to avoid closure. Currently, there are about 200,000 jobs on the line in Alabama, most of them having been left out of the $28.6 billion Restaurant Revitalization Fund grants last spring. Elizabeth Warren said "Congress should have stepped up months ago going into the winter, but here we are now, and with omicron hitting so much harder than most people anticipated, that's been a double blow to the restaurants, so we need to get the help out the door fast." (Birmingham Patch)

  3. 'I See Me, Inc.' and the Birmingham Squadron teamed up to host Literacy Day at Legacy Arena on March 7. The first 2,000 students that show up to the game will receive a free Squadron school kit. The two teamed up to encourage children to read and it started with the "Battle of the Books" challenge to see which school could read the most books by Feb. 25. (WVTM13 Birmingham)
