Additional charges brought against Scotland, South Dakota, man accused of killing three, injuring two

A Scotland man accused of killing three people and injuring two in a domestic-related incident in early November is facing additional charges, according to court documents.

Francis Lange has pled not guilty to all charges.

Lange is accused of shooting and killing Angela Monclova, Librado Monclova and Diane Akins on Nov. 10 at a residence on the 700 block of Second Street. Lange also is accused of shooting and injuring Vicki Monclova and a 5-year-old girl.

Lange faces three charges of first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree attempted murder and various charges including aggravated assault and committing a felony while carrying a firearm, according to court documents.

The attempted murder charges were brought against Lange in Bon Homme County Court on Tuesday.

Judge Cheryle Gering set a Feb. 28 deadline for the state to determine if it wants to seek the death penalty in relation to the three counts of murder, according to the Yankton Press and Dakotan.

Jury selection in the trial is scheduled to begin Oct. 19, 2022.

If convicted of first-degree murder, Lange faces either the death penalty or life in prison.

The family of the victims has set up a GoFundMe in order to pay for funeral expenses.
