Additional Early Voting Sites Opening This Week In Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Additional early voting locations are opening this week in Alexandria with the Nov. 3 election less than two weeks away.

Since early voting began on Sept. 18, the only early voting location has been the Office of Voter Registration and Elections at 132 North Royal Street, Suite 100. Additional locations that will be open for select days in October are Charles Beatley Library, Minnie Howard School and George Washington Middle School. For in-person voting, voters need to show an acceptable form of ID, but it no longer has to be a photo ID due to a new state law.

The deadline to cast an absentee ballot at an early voting location is 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31. Voters are required to wear a face mask and maintain six feet of distance from others.

Curbside voting is available for voters aged 65 or older, voters who have a physical disability or those who have symptoms of COVID-19. Voters should follow signs at voting locations to request curbside assistance.

For those returning an absentee ballot requested by mail, all early voting locations will have ballot drop boxes during voting hours. There is also a 24/7 secure drop box outside the Office of Voter Registration and Elections, and drop boxes will be available at polling places on Election Day (Nov. 3) from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot by mail is Friday, Oct. 23. Applications must be received in the Office of Voter Registrations & Elections on that day by 5 p.m. Applications can be submitted online at vote.elections.virginia.gov, and paper applications are available at alexandriava.gov/Elections or by calling the Alexandria Voter Registration Office at 703-746-4050.

Completed ballots must be returned to the Office of Voter Registrations & Elections by 7 p.m. on Nov. 3 or be postmarked by Nov. 3 and received by the office by noon on Nov. 6.

Voters who are ill or under quarantine an absentee voting deadline should call the Office of Voter Registration and Elections at 703-746-4050 to learn about potential emergency absentee voting options.

The voter registration deadline has passed. The deadline had been extended to Oct. 15 due to a voter registration system outage on Oct. 13, which had been the original deadline.
