Adel Rotary has long been a supporter of literacy programs at ADM Schools. Meadow View Elementary School has a new vending machine just for books to encourage students to read more.

Adel Rotary President Bob Grove was pleased to present a $1,200 check to Meadow View Principal Jodi Banse at its May 31 meeting to help bring more books to this innovative way to support literacy.

"Students can earn vending machine coins for various academic, leadership, and character achievements throughout the year," Banse said.

The machine doesn’t accept money, though; students earn a coin that allows them to choose a book as a reward. Students are excited about choosing their own books to keep that they have earned. The book vending machine is a fun way to celebrate reading. The machine has colored LED lights and talks when the coin is inserted, offering words of encouragement.
