A 22-year-old man was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of biting a deputy then spitting blood at him in an Adelanto neighborhood.

Michael Medina of Adelanto remained at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on Friday, with bail set at $50,000, sheriff’s officials said.

Medina is scheduled to appear on Monday in Victorville Superior Court, booking records show.

Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station officials reported that just before sunrise on Thursday, deputies responded to a disturbance in the 11300 block of Cortez Avenue in Adelanto.

The area is located near Bellflower Street and Richardson Park, east of Highway 395.

A family member living at the home said Medina was not welcome at the location and refused to leave, sheriff officials stated.

Deputies contacted Medina who they say was uncooperative and made delusional statements.

While attempting to escort Medina off the property, he became aggressive with deputies, who handcuffed him.

After throwing himself onto the ground, Medina was placed into the back of a patrol car.

When deputies opened the car door to talk with Medina, he kicked and headbutted deputies and attempted to escape, sheriff’s officials stated

While securing Medina back in the car, he bit one deputy on the shoulder and spat blood on him, sheriff’s officials said.

Medina was arrested for battery on a peace officer.

Sheriff’s officials did not indicate the condition of the deputy or if he was treated for injuries.
