Adelanto mom arrested after her baby daughter's death: San Bernardino sheriff

San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies arrested an Adelanto mother on suspicion of killing her 7-month-old daughter.

Victor Valley Station Sheriff’s officials said around 2:10 a.m. on Saturday, deputies responded to an emergency in the 11400 block of Russet Place in Adelanto.

The area is between Highway 395 and Bellflower Street, north of Hook Boulevard.

When deputies arrived, they found a 7-month-old girl who was not breathing, sheriff’s officials said.

Deputies performed CPR on the infant until emergency personnel arrived and took her to a hospital, where at 3:11 a.m. doctors declared her dead, according to the sheriff's statement.

While investigating, deputies and medical personnel discovered trauma to the infant, which the sheriff's report said was consistent with child abuse. Sheriff's officials did not elaborate on the child's condition.

Authorities accuse Mayra Rodriguez-Garcia of her baby's death. Rodriguez-Garcia was arrested and booked into the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto.

On Sunday, she remained in custody and without bail at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.

The sheriff’s homicide detail is handling the investigation.
