Radio 1 DJ Adele Roberts has shared photos of her stoma bag following her diagnosis with bowel cancer.

The 42-year-old former I’m A Celebrity star revealed last week that she had been diagnosed with the disease, and was to undergo surgery to remove a tumour.

As a result of the treatment, she has had a stoma bag fitted, which aids in eliminating waste from the body when it cannot be passed through the bowel fully.

Sharing the new addition to her body, Roberts was seen lifting up her surgical gown to reveal the grey bag attached to her abdomen.

She declared the bag had “helped save her life”, although it was taking some adjustment to get used to.

Alongside the collection of photographs, taken as she was discharged from hospital, Roberts praised the NHS for their life-saving work.

She wrote: “I think this is my favourite selfie ever. I’m rubbish at selfies but I loved taking this one. I’m bruised… I keep finding new holes but I’m recovering and this little stoma bag helped save my life.

“I’m still learning to look after it. It’s been a rollercoaster so far. I feel like I need a trainer to help me tame it. It’s wild! Haha. It does what it wants when it wants… but I’m sure I’ll get there. Get ready Kate because our new house guest seems very naughty.”

“I’ll admit, all of this has been overwhelming at times,” the star added. “A lot for me to take in. It’s all happened so quickly from diagnosis to treatment but that’s the brilliance of the NHS.

“I am so grateful to them and I know I am very lucky.”

Roberts went on to thank fans for their continued support following her announcement of the diagnosis, and urged others to get checked if they were experiencing symptoms.

“I’ve got a bit of a wait to hear about my tumour and what it will mean for the future, but fingers crossed it’s good news,” she concluded. “Either way I’m grateful for one thing out of all of this. It’s reminded me to LIVE LIFE."

She later made light of her new fashion accessory by getting her followers to help her choose between grey, beige or black.

After giving the options, she went with the public vote and opted for grey.

Her optimism in the face of the diagnosis has been praised by fans and her celeb pals who have flocked to lend their support.

Nadine Coyle dubbed Roberts: “Our strong brave girl” while her Radio 1 co-star Matt Edmondson wrote: ‘You’re amazing Adele. Sending all the love in the world.”
