Adidas, NHL unveil Pittsburgh Penguins 2023 Winter Classic jerseys
Adidas and the National Hockey League revealed the special-edition jerseys that the Pittsburgh Penguins and Boston Bruins will wear during the 2023 Discover NHL Winter Classic.
According to a release from the Penguins, the team’s jerseys were inspired by the 1925 Pittsburgh Pirates. The jersey features a large “p” crest, which they say stands for Pittsburgh and Penguins. Its form was borrowed from the original Pirates sweater, the team said.
Extra repair stitch details were added to the jerseys by Adidas, reportedly for the first time in NHL history.
A blue and white checkerboard pattern on the inside back neck of the jersey is intended to be a reference to William Pitt.

The Penguins and the Bruins will face off during the Winter Classic on Monday, Jan. 2 at Fenway Park in Boston at 2 p.m.
