Adkins out after 5 seasons at Starkville

Apr. 25—Luke Adkins is out as Starkville's baseball coach after five seasons.

It was the first head coaching job for the former Nettleton standout, who played at Southern Miss and Mississippi State. Adkins had a record of 60-60 with the Yellowjackets, including a 13-9 mark this season.

Playing in one of the state's toughest divisions, Starkville missed the Class 6A playoffs this year. The Jackets reached the third round in 2021, losing to eventual state champion Madison Central. They were put out by MC in the second round the next season.

In a statement to the Journal, Adkins said, "I feel really good about my tenure at Starkville. We competed at the highest level in the state and had a ton of success. We had some big wins against some of the elite programs in the state. I was able to help a lot of kids move on to the next level."

One of this year's seniors, shortstop and pitcher Ethan Pulliam, is a Mississippi State signee.

Adkins' only other previous coaching job was as an assistant at Houston during the 2018 season.
