Admired Coast chef launching new restaurant at former Ichiban in Ocean Springs

The former Ichiban restaurant in Ocean Springs will open this spring with a new name and chef.

The building at 803 Bienville Blvd., just west of Washington Avenue, closed under the former chef on Dec. 31.

It now is getting a cleaning and makeover to become Hurley Hibachi & Asian Cuisine.

Behind the new name and concept is Chef Scott Khong, owner of Chef Scott’s sushi and Asian fusion restaurant at 1060 Thorn Ave. in Ocean Springs.

“My friend Chef Hung Hurley will run the hibachi over there,” Khong said of the new restaurant.

“I am keeping my sushi bar over at Thorn Avenue,” he said.

Chef Scott, as he is known locally, has operated popular Asian restaurants in South Mississippi for years. When his son was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2021, Chef Scott took two years off to care for Collin, then 12.

His son is now cancer-free and Chef Scott is again preparing fresh sushi and Asian cuisine at his Thorn Avenue restaurant and launching this new restaurant.

The previous operators of Ichiban report on Facebook they continue looking for a new location.
