Adopt a dog and grab a beer at the Hops & Vine Festival this weekend

There will be beer, puppies, and music in store for those who make their way to the Hops & Vine Festival this weekend.

As in past years, the festival will be raising money for the Humane Society of Madison County Animal League for Life, who will be on site with adoptable pets.

The event is celebrating its tenth year, and has been hosted by Apollo Pizza and its sister store, Steam Engine Pizza Pub of Irvine.

"We're really excited for another year of Hops & Vine. It's hard to believe this will be the tenth time," said Apollo Pizza owner Wes Browne. "The weather looks great, and the live music lineup is amazing."

Patrons can enjoy local craft beer from Blue Stallion, Country Boy, Lexington Brewing and Distilling, Mirror Twin, Dreaming Creek, West Sixth, Scout and Scholar, and Monnik, as well as cider from Wise Bird, and wine and sangria from Chenault Vineyards.

Live music is scheduled all day beginning with local act Zach and Stan at 2 p.m., local rock band PTY at 4:30, and Utopia — a seven piece R&B, rock, and soul band from Tullahoma, Tennessee — from 7 to 10 p.m..

The event will be held near Apollo Pizza in the South Second Street Business district in Downtown Richmond on July 22 from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

This year, White Rabbit Record and Skate Shop from Corbin, Kentucky will have a pop-up shop at the festival and will be joined by over a dozen other arts and craft vendors in the Hops & Vine vendor village. Browne said this vendor lineup, the festival's largest ever, "has a lot of people excited." There will also be activities, like corn hole, pop-a-shot basketball, and giant Connect Four for people to play.

According to Browne, the event is rain or shine and free to the public. There will be plenty of shade tents for people and well behaved, leashed dogs to cool off in the summer heat.

"It's going to be a great day of celebrating local food, drinks, and art as well as our families, pets and community," the business owner said.

Guests may bring their own chairs, but no coolers or outside beverages are allowed.
