ADRIAN — Entries are being accepted into the Adrian District Library’s 19th annual gingerbread house contest.

Gingerbread houses can be submitted to the library, 143 E. Maumee St., between 9:30 a.m. and 7:45 p.m. either Wednesday, Nov. 30, or Thursday, Dec. 1. Voting will take place Dec. 2-9. The winners will be announced Dec. 10, a news release from the library said.

Public votes will decide first-, second- and third-place in each category, the release said.

“Anyone can vote for their favorite house in each category, both online and in person,” the news release said.

Bakers, crafters and confectionists of all ages and abilities are eligible to participate in one of four categories: adults/teens, family, older kids, and younger kids. For each category, two or more people can work together. Community organizations are also welcome to participate, the release said. An Adrian District Library account is not necessary to participate, and there is no entry fee.

This festive holiday gingerbread house was entered into the adult category during a previous year's contest at the Adrian District Library. The 19th annual gingerbread house contest at the library in downtown Adrian returns this holiday season. Houses can be entered into four categories for judging and voting: adults/teens, family, older kids, and younger kids.

“Everyone loved voting for the winners last year, so we’re absolutely doing that again this year,” Adrian District Library Youth Services Librarian Cathy Chesher said in the release. “This contest has become an annual tradition for many families in the community, and it’s exciting to see how creative people get every year.”

Voting will be completed both online at www.adrian.lib.mi.us and in person at the library. Following the announcement of the winners on Dec. 10, the gingerbread houses will be on display through Dec. 17 at the library. Houses can be picked up between the dates of Dec. 19-29, after which they will be discarded by library personnel, the release said.

Contest rules and entry forms are available at the library and also on the library’s website in printable formats. To contact the library, call 517-265-2265 or send an email to adriandistrictlibrary@adrian.lib.mi.us.
