Adrian Meijer makes donation to Lenawee Community Mental Health Authority

ADRIAN — Adrian Meijer employees delivered a check for $10,000 to the Lenawee Community Mental Health Authority recently, according to a news release from the Meijer store.

This is the second year Meijer has given its hourly team members the opportunity to decide which nonprofit organization should receive the gift. Store director Ben Negron explained the process used in the last two years to make the designation.

"Our team members participated in a voting process over many weeks to narrow down eight local organizations including The Daily Bread, Humane Society, Share the Warmth among them to a single organization. Meijer encourages its hourly team members to have a say in the decision to donate funds to community organizations, without influence from leadership, and those team members made their voice heard today," Negron said in an email on Nov. 30. "Last year our team members selected two organizations to split the $10,000 donation which went to Share the Warmth and The Daily Bread, each receiving $5,000."

Linda Whipple, who works at the Adrian Meijer in the fashions department, told members of the Lenawee Community Mental Health Authority board on Nov. 30 how critical mental health and suicide prevention initiatives and programs are to the community and to the 279 team members at the Adrian Meijer.

In 2022, the Meijer Team Gives program is donating $3 million to more than 500 nonprofits chosen by Meijer team members. The inaugural Meijer Team Gives program in 2021 allowed store and distribution facility employees to select nonprofits meaningful to them for a $2.8 million donation. The combined two-year Meijer Team Gives donation totals nearly $6 million.

"Meijer cares about the communities we serve, and our team members are the face of that commitment in our stores every day. I am humbled to see our team members’ passion and support for this amazing nonprofit through Meijer Team Gives program. Our team members are the core of who we are as a company," Negron said.
