Adrian selected for participation in 2023 Back to the Bricks Promo Tour, June 9-14
ADRIAN — A statewide tour of antique and classic cars will be rolling through and visiting Adrian this summer, participating in a promotional tour of automobiles that attracts more than 500,000 car enthusiasts each year.
Starting in June, the city of Adrian will be the initial stop on the 2023 Back to the Bricks Promo Tour. The city and Downtown Adrian Main Street announced its selection to be a stop in the summer’s car show via a news release Thursday.
The 13th annual Back to the Bricks Promo Tour for 2023 spans five days, June 9-14. The stop in Adrian will be June 9, followed by additional car show events in Auburn, Indiana, June 10 and 11; South Bend, Indiana, June 12; and making its way back to Michigan for two show dates in Battle Creek, June 13 and 14, according to a promotional flyer for the summer event.
“Back to the Bricks last visited Adrian in 2017, and the tour organizers are impressed with the new developments to downtown, as well as the current car shows and First Friday events,” the release from the city said.
Adrian City Administrator Greg Elliott, Main Street Executive Director Jay Marks and Communications and Marketing Coordinator for the city of Adrian Michelle Dewey, visited Flint Dec. 15, for the Back to the Bricks Promo Tour press conference, held at the Dort Financial Center. The lineup of the car shows dates and locations were announced at the press conference.
This year’s promo tour is titled the “Founders Promo Tour,” named for and celebrating the founder of Backs to the Bricks, Al Hatch. The very first Back to the Bricks event was held August 2005. The car show was designed to "compliment" and "coincide" with the Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit. It gets its name because of closing down three blocks of historic "red bricks" under the arches of Saginaw Street for the first-ever event.
Back to the Bricks, according to its website, backtothebricks.org, is sponsored by General Motors and attracts more than 500,000 car show enthusiasts annually.
Tune-up parties and promo tours, such as the one Adrian will be participating in, “generate enthusiasm in advance of the main event, which provides a showcase for classic, custom and collector vehicles of all kinds.”
As many as 400 classic cars and their owners could make their way to the Maple City as a precursor showing for the car show's main event in mid-August in Flint.
Registration opens Jan. 1, 2023, the flyer for the event said. Additional details will be provided closer to the event. People can keep up with event progress by following several Adrian social media channels including Downtown Adrian, Adrian First Fridays and the City of Adrian on Facebook for future announcements.
