Adrian and Tecumseh chamber bucks match from Consumers Energy sells out first day
TECUMSEH — The community really took to purchasing chamber bucks this year.
“In 3 1/2 hours yesterday, we sold out of the Consumer Energy Our Town Match, putting nearly $40,000 back into our local business community,” Tecumseh Area and Adrian Area Chambers of Commerce executive director Matt Swartzlander said in an email.
Wednesday was the first day the chamber bucks were offered to the public.
Consumers Energy partnered with the Tecumseh Area and Adrian Area Chambers of Commerce to offer the chamber bucks, which can be used for purchases at local businesses.
Chamber bucks are gift certificates to businesses belonging to the Adrian Area and Tecumseh Area Chambers of Commerce. Each participating business accepts the chamber bucks as cash, then turns them in to the chamber, which then reimburses the business. Chamber bucks are purchased in increments of $5, $10, $20 and $25.
Chamber bucks and the Consumers Energy Our Town Program matched any purchase of chamber bucks two for one up to $200. So if the consumer purchased $10, she received $20.
Consumers Energy donated $19,000 to match consumer purchases of chamber bucks.
