“Students from beginners to advanced will find class choices at every level,” said McKennon, a member of SAG/AFTRA who has more than 250 productions around the US to his credit.

Ace That Audition is a new offering from McKennon and The Edge this spring. The class will be offered in two four-week sessions on Saturdays from 1-3 p.m. beginning Jan. 19 and again on March 12. Students need to bring acting resumes to the first class and will learn auditioning techniques including how to choose the right material and present themselves professionally. Tuition is $25 per or $75 for the four-week session if paid in full by the first class.

Beginning Acting for Adults teaches the basics of acting and the theater. This course meets Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon, Jan. 29 through March 19 (no class March 5) and tuition is $25 per class or $150 for the series if paid in full.

Directing: More Than Blocking takes students beyond the basics of directing a play. Students will learn the important considerations in casting, techniques for getting the best performances from actors, creating a show concept and communicating with designers, and working with producers to create and stay within a show budget, as well as the role of fundraising.

Directing classes will meet Saturdays from 3-5:30 p.m. from Jan. 29 through March 19. Tuition for the series is $150 if paid in full or $25 per individual class.

Advanced Acting: Character Development is for actors with some experience and will use monologues and scene work to find the core of the character. This class moves past the basics of blocking, memorization and vocal work to focus on techniques of becoming the character and being present in the moment, from bit parts to leads.

The Character Development class meets Sundays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Jan. 30 through March 20. Tuition for the series is $150 or $25 per session.

Educational programming at The Edge seeks to develop and serve diverse populations.

All classes will take place at The Boston Avenue Playhouse, home of The Edge, 4228 Boston Ave.
