‘Adventurous, happy, and bright’: Mother of boy allegedly killed by his grandmother fighting for justice

HARDIN COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – “Adventurous, happy and bright.”

That’s how a 3-year-old boy, who investigators claim was killed by his legal grandmother, is being remembered.

Amy and Jeff Brasher were both indicted in the murder of their legal grandchild, Carson Brasher, in Hardin County.

Carson’s mother spoke with News 2’s Stephanie Langston to shine a light on how she wants her son to be remembered as she fights for justice.

“He was happy; he was outgoing; he was joyful; he was bright; he was rambunctious,” Carson’s mother, Kimberly Jones, said as she began to cry.

He was Jones’ only boy.

“If you met him you would have fell in love with him. He changed a lot of people’s lives in the short amount of time that he was here, that we was blessed with him,” she explained.

Jones said Amy and Jeff Brasher received legal custody of Carson in late October while she was in rehab.

“He was just waiting for me to come home,” she cried.

Court records show Carson was found unresponsive the day after Christmas. Jones said she was told Carson slipped in the bathtub and hit his head while in Amy’s care. However, indictments said Amy abused and intentionally – with premeditation – killed Carson, while Jeffrey failed to protect him from abuse or neglect.

“It’s just hard to talk about it really. Honestly,” Jones said.

She met with investigators Friday, April 5, to learn more details as to what happened to her little boy.

“Knowing I’ve got to sit down and I’ve got to relive everything that my baby went through, what she did to my son is not at all fair,” Jones cried.

She said their road to justice is just beginning and she’s asking for prayers from the community.

“I just wanted everybody to know that he was loved and he was missed and this could happen in anybody’s town and anybody’s family,” Jones said.

Amy faces two counts of first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse, while Jeffrey faces aggravated child endangerment.

Jones’ family is selling “Carson Strong” shirts and bracelets to help raise money for his headstone. For more information, click here. A GoFundMe account has also been set up for headstone expenses.
