Power has been restored to most AEP customers in the Wooster area, as well as Canton and New Philadelphia, who've been without electricity since Saturday's windstorm downed trees and power lines and severed utility poles.

The company issued it's final update for the most recent storm Tuesday afternoon. According to the update, AEP utility crews have restored 98% of the more than 125,000 customers who lost power during the storm.

For the remainder of those waiting for service to be restored, AEP estimated full restoration at the following times.

  • Athens: 11 p.m. Wednesday

  • Canton: 11 p.m. Wednesday

  • Carrollton: 6 p.m. today

  • New Philadelphia: 11 p.m. Wednesday

  • Steubenville: 11 p.m. Wednesday

  • Wooster: 6 p.m. today

Damage from the windstorm has been widespread and extensive, the update states, with sections of Northeast and Southeast Ohio hardest hit.

According to AEP, crews were repairing 2,171 spans of wire, 293 fallen trees on lines, 235 broken poles, 119 broken crossarms and 77 damaged transformers.

Customers needing power restoration updates can sign up for AEP text alerts or download the company's mobile app.

In Wayne County, Moreland, Fredericksburg and Church roads are cleared and were opened today, according to the Engineer's Office.

Seville Road remains closed between Atlantic and Doylestown as the county waits for Ohio Edison's response to the scene.

The company has not been able to give an estimated time, the county stated in an email.
