Aerial Imagery Shows Hurricane Laura Aftermath in Southwestern Louisiana
Officials in southwestern Louisiana surveyed the aftermath of Hurricane Laura, which caused at least 18 deaths, many due to carbon monoxide poisoning from generators after power went out, reports said.
The National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) conducted a number of surveillance flights to assess the damage in Texas and Louisiana between August 27 and 31. This before-and-after shows the devastation near Cameron, a city left severely damaged when Laura made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane.
The Louisiana National Guard was deployed to the Lake Charles area to distribute food, water, and other emergency supplies following Hurricane Laura, which swept through the region in the early hours of August 27.
