Aerospace soars to 3rd straight win, Division V tourney berth

Feb. 11—The Aerospace High boys basketball team has been flying high lately.

The next stop on the itinerary is the Division V state tournament.

Julian Surdyka had 17 points to lead the Jets to a 46-25 win over International Studies in CRAL play in Windsor.

The win clinches Aerospace (8-8) a berth in the Division V tournament and was the team's third in a row.

The game was tied 4-4 after a quarter before Aerospace outscored the Blue Dragons (5-11) 13-3 in the second to take control of the game.

Myles Fournier added 14 points for the hosts. Jarell Deer paced International Studies with 14 points.

The Jets return to the court Monday when they visit Bloomfield.

ELLINGTON 46, SOMERS 40. Caden Brannon's 15 points led the way as the host Knights won a NCCC game.

Ellington (14-3) has now won five games in a row. The Knights led 12-6 after a quarter before extending it to 26-15 at the half.

Elijah Miller added 13 points in the win while Kevin Desrocher contributed 10.

Colby McCormick led Somers (11-7) with 16 points.

Ellington is at Suffield today while Somers entertains Windsor Locks Tuesday.

WINDSOR LOCKS 68, COVENTRY 49. Malike Alasani led all scorers with 24 points as the Raiders picked up a NCCC win in Coventry.

It's the fourth win in a row for Windsor Locks (13-2), which led 22-11 after a quarter and never looked back.

Austin Smith added 14 in the win while teammate Sincere Monroe had 13. Nate Cordner paced Coventry (12-8) with 15 points while Wyatt Wendry added 13.

Windsor Locks hosts Rockville Monday to begin a stretch of four games in five days.

CANTON 43, BOLTON 38. In Bolton, Matthew Benedetti scored 13 points to lead the Warriors to a NCCC win.

Canton (11-7) led 14-11 after a quarter and 25-16 at the half. Bolton (9-10) cut it 30-26 entering the fourth but couldn't complete the comeback.

Ben Cuniowski and Brandon Powell added 11 points apiece in the win.

Trevor Buchanan scored a game-high 16 points for Bolton, which travels to E.O. Smith Friday to conclude the regular season. Teammate Ryan Orzolek contributed 11 points.

WINDSOR 70, NEWINGTON 50. Jakeel Martin (19 points) paced the Warriors in their CCC North win in Windsor.

The win halts a two-game skid for Windsor (13-4) while also snapping Newington's six-game win streak.

The Warriors led 17-12 after a quarter and 32-27 at the half before outscoring Newington (12-5) 38-23 in the second half.

Anthony Solis added 15 points, six rebounds and three steals in the win. Teammate Kaiden James contributed 12 points while Rashawn Tibby had 10.

Avery Mickens paced the Nor'easters with 14 points while Lebron Beckford had 11.

Windsor travels to Manchester Tuesday.

CHENEY TECH 86, GRASSO TECH 49. Da'mnic Gittens posted a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds as the Beavers won a CTC Charter Oak interdivisional game in Manchester.

Grasso Tech (6-10) led 18-14 after a quarter, But the Beavers (13-6) outscored the visitors 51-14 over the middle two quarters to take control.

Calvin Henderson added 18 points for Cheney while Ayden Brookins and J'Roose Orbe each had 10. Keron Wilson led Grasso with 12 points.

The Beavers conclude their regular season schedule Feb. 21 when it hosts Hartford Public.
