AEW's return to 1stBANK Center could be facility's final battle

Jun. 9—All Elite Wrestling (AEW) is returning to Broomfield in September, and this time it might be the final pinfall for the 1stBANK Center.

The pro wrestling company announced during a visit to Colorado Springs on Wednesday that it would be back in Broomfield for a live taping of its cable television programs "Dynamite" and "Rampage" on Sept. 27. Showtime starts at 5 p.m., with tickets going on sale next week.

A crowd of approximately 4,000 spectators turned out to the 1stBANK Center in Broomfield in spite of an incoming snowstorm to watch All Elite Wrestling on Dec. 28. It was the company's first time back since before the COVID-19 pandemic. (Michael Hicks ??

This will be the company's third appearance at the venue, which opened in 2006. AEW first visited Broomfield in March 2020, mere weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown. The company returned last December.

"We look forward to returning to the historic venue in Broomfield. The arena and fans have always been kind to us," an AEW company spokesperson said.

This, however, could be the final event held in the 17-year-old venue after the Broomfield City Council last month voted to end its management and operations contract with the facility due to years of underperformance and underutilization.

According to previous reporting, operations at the 1stBANK Center will be discontinued by Sept. 30, and the company that runs the event center, PEAK Entertainment, is set to vacate the premises by Nov. 30.

As of Friday morning, the only other event listed on the 1stBANK Center website is a Ricardo Arjona concert scheduled for July 9.
