AFC East: Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa not in concussion protocol

One of the more controversial moments of the Buffalo Bills’ loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 3 centered around quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Tagovailoa briefly left Sunday’s 21-19 win over the Bills. While at the time it seemed very apparent that he sustained a head injury, Tagovailoa returned to the contest.

According to Dolphins Wire, Miami evaluated him for a potential concussion, but he cleared all tests.

Later on, the team noted that Tagovailoa appeared to stumble after taking a hit on the field because of ankle and back injuries. Not any concussion-related issue.

Upon further evaluation, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said another day removed from the game on Monday that Tagovailoa is OK. The coach only noted soreness.

“I have an update that he’s feeling sore, but as far as everything else, we’re just acquiring information right now,” McDaniel said. “He was pretty sore, which we knew he was going to be. His ankle was a little sore too from all of his inner-trench warfare.”

Regardless, Tagovailoa’s status is still very much in question.

The Dolphins’ next contest comes on a short week. They’ll face off with the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 4’s Thursday night contest.

After Miami’s win over Buffalo, the Dolphins (3-0) currently hold first place in the AFC East over the Bills (2-1)–Which makes their upcoming game all the more important.
