AFC playoff picture: Here’s where the Patriots stand after their bye week

The New England Patriots have moved into the AFC playoff picture for the first time this season, despite not taking the field for a game in Week 10.

New England got to rest and recover on their bye week, while the Los Angeles Chargers fell to the San Francisco 49ers on “Sunday Night Football,” propelling the Patriots into the 7th overall position in the conference standings.

If the season ended today, the Patriots would qualify for postseason play and open the playoffs as an AFC Wild Card team.

All of New England’s AFC East rivals are also in the thick of the playoff race. The Miami Dolphins, now 7-2, hold the second overall seed, while the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills cling to the fifth and sixth seeds with 6-3 records.

The Kansas City Chiefs are currently the No. 1 seed in the AFC. The Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens are also in the mix.

The Patriots will host the Jets this weekend, followed by crucial games against the Minnesota Vikings and Bills.

New England ends this season with back-to-back games against the Dolphins and Bills.
