Affected by the closures on I-64 West? Here's how to get around them

The westbound lanes of Interstate 64, from the Watterson Expressway (Interstate 264) through Story Avenue, closed Friday for two weeks of maintenance.

The road is scheduled to reopen at 6 a.m., June 16. Improvements will include asphalt pavement milling and resurfacing as well as replacing guardrails, the first such rehabilitation project of I-64 since 2001.

Here are the impacted traffic patterns:

  • Traffic on I-64 West will be diverted to I-264 East or West

  • Ramps from I-264 East and West to I-64 West will be closed

  • The I-64 West on-ramp at Story Avenue will remain open

Louisville Metro Emergency Services is prepared for the the closures and heavy traffic. Its crews will use alternate routes throughout the county when necessary, including surface area road routes in areas surrounding I-64, according to spokesperson Jessica Wethington.

In the meantime, if you're traveling from eastern Louisville, here are a few alternate routes to head west:

U.S. Highway 42 (Brownsboro Road)

Neighborhoods served: Northfield, Indian Hills, Mockingbird Valley, Brownsboro Zorn, Clifton

U.S. Highway 60 (Shelbyville Road/Frankfort Avenue)

Neighborhoods served: Middletown, Plainview, Hurstborne, St. Matthews, Cherokee Gardens, Crescent Hill

U.S. Highway 150 (Bardstown Road)
