Need affordable groceries? We compared prices at local Bellingham grocery stores for you

As the cost of food prices continues to rise, The Bellingham Herald compared prices for staples online and in-store at local stores monthly to find where you can save on groceries.

Prices at grocery stores have continued to rise throughout 2022, with food prices 7.7% higher in October 2022 compared to October 2021, and rising 0.4% between September and October this year, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

This increase is predicted to continue throughout the year the USDA stated, adding that grocery prices will increase between 11%-12% in 2022, and restaurant food prices will increase between 7%-8%.

The USDA also predicts that in 2023 grocery prices will have a less dramatic increase of 2.5%-3.5%.

These increases have encouraged shoppers to find ways to save on groceries and check if they are eligible for food stamps or assistance programs.
