'Who’s afraid of former President Donald Trump?'

Edward Albee’s acclaimed story in the 1960s – “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” had characters who created illusions to help them evade feelings of their own shortcomings and inadequacies. Fast forward 70 years, and you have a new version – “Who’s Afraid of Donald Trump?”

In this new version, the Colorado Supreme Court misuses a confederacy-related insurrection law to keep former President Trump off their primary election ballot, the City of New York has an unfounded, with no parties harmed, civil fraud trial against the former President, the District of Columbia and the state of Georgia are claiming election interference, and Florida is pursuing a dubious classified document case, all against former President Trump.

The legacy media is ecstatic about these cases – anything to keep President Trump from running for a second term. This unprecedented attack is against former President Trump who is “guilty” of: border security, energy independence, respect for law enforcement, parental rights in education, equal opportunity and meritocracy, victim rights greater than criminal rights and a thriving economy.

Let the voters decide – a continuation of the Biden/Harris administration ( "Are You Better Off Now Than You Were Four Years Ago?" – President Reagan), or another Trump administration. This is what our Founding Fathers would want and what we deserve.

Gov. Newsom’s new gun laws won’t work

The laws Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed into law, especially the law that prohibits law-abiding citizens from carrying concealed weapons in just about every public place, does nothing to keep honest people safe. What it does is allow criminals to prey on people knowing that they will be the only ones carrying weapons in these public places. Do you really think this law will prevent criminals from carrying guns?

I’m all for sensible gun laws, but I also want the good guys to be able to protect themselves and others who cannot.

Good on UC President Michael Drake

Dan Walter’s opinion article on the Israel-Palestine war dividing Democrats, academics was, as usual, quite illuminating about the partisan position of Democrats and Republicans.

However, I was impressed to find out that UC President Michael Drake will launch programs to better understand antisemitism and Islamophobia. As expected, some faculty members wanted to take pro-Palestine positions only. I hope there are some faculty that will applaud this president’s efforts to consider a reasonable program to consider all sides of this debate.

‘Year in photos’ omission is deafening

After seeing the section in the Sunday paper, USA Today’s "2023 The Year in Photos," it was quite obvious of your omission of anything regarding Israel or the attack of Oct. 7. It was amazing to see the pictures of the migrants at the border, despair of war, with pictures of Palestinians, fighting for freedom in Ukraine, political views and photos, nature's havoc and consequences and times in sports and entertainment. Your lack of any mention of Israel is quite deafening. Your thoughtless omission only confirms the sheer expression of antisemitism.
