African American Community Fund announces grant recipient

The African American Community Fund recently announced its 2021 grant recipients, funding eight community projects this year.

The AACF was founded by and for the Black community to create opportunities for African Americans in the 32 counties of Appalachian Ohio.

The 2021 grant recipients are Mount Zion Baptist Church Preservation Society, of Athens County, which received $1,150 to help produce Episode II of a three-part documentary film “Black Wall Street Athens County”; the Zanesville Civic League, of Muskingum County, which received $1,150 for Empowering a Community of Women, a group that provides support, training and resources to women, helping them become leaders; Alliance for Congregational Transformation Influencing Our Neighborhoods, of Mahoning, Columbiana, Trumbull and Perry counties, which received $1,150 for the Mahoning Valley Mobile Market initiative; Black in Appalachia, of Perry County, which received $2,000 for the Rendville Archival Support Project; the Tablertown: People of Color Museum (Multicultural Genealogical Center), which received $1,150 for the Building a Sustainable Future for Tablertown: People of Color Museum project; the Muskingum County Social Justice Coalition, which received $1,150 for implicit bias community training; GO Community Development Corporation, of Ashtabula County, which received $1,500 for the Warm Feet project to purchase winter boots for those in need; and the Underground Railroad Museum, which received $750.

AACF partnered with the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio’s I’m a Child of Appalachia Fund to award the grants.
