Vigils, prayer services and rallies were held across Buffalo Sunday after a gunman, wearing tactical gear and a livestreaming camera, killed 10 people and wounded three more in a hate-fueled shooting rampage at a busy supermarket. Eleven of the 13 people who were shot Saturday at the Tops Friendly Markets were Black. The suspect, who was taken into custody at the scene, is white. The FBI is investigating the shooting as a hate crime and racially motivated violent extremism. The suspect, Payton Gendron, 18, of Conklin, New York, near Binghamton, has been charged with first-degree murder, and officials said they are weighing additional charges.

Thirteen years after Brittanee Drexel, 17, of Chili was reported missing while on spring break in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, her remains have been found 35 miles south of the tourist destination, and a man has been charged with killing her. Police in Georgetown County shared the news Monday at a press conference attended by Brittanee’s parents, Dawn and Chad Drexel. Raymond Moody, 62, who had been a person of interest in the case for years, is accused of murder, kidnapping and sexual misconduct, all of which authorities say occurred on April 25, 2009. “This is truly a mother’s worst nightmare,” Dawn Drexel said. “I am mourning my beautiful daughter today, as I have for the last 13 years.” However, “We are much closer to the peace that I have been hoping for.” Brittanee's remains, believed to have been buried on April 26, 2009, were recovered May 11 and positively identified through DNA and dental records. Moody spent 21 years in prison for the 1983 abduction and rape of a 9-year-old California girl.
