Against Me! heads to Orlando for spring tour

2020 will mark four years since Against Me! put out their last album, “Shape Shift With Me.” In the past decade, the Gainesville punks released three records, well short of the one-album-per-year goal lead singer Laura Jane Grace told Spin magazine they was shooting for. But I doubt fans will hold their ambition against them.

It was still a very full 10 years for the band. In 2011, Grace started a new recording studio in an abandoned post office in St. John’s County. She came out as transgender in 2012, and then she released her autobiography and formed the side project Laura Jane Grace & The Devouring Mothers in 2016.

So it’s not like Against Me! didn’t stay busy. They even put out new music, in the form of a cover of Jim Carroll’s “People Who Died” on the 2018 compilation album “Songs That Saved My Life.” We just didn’t get a whole new album, but it’s hard not to begrudge them the break.

Against Me! will perform at The Social in downtown Orlando on March 26. Tickets, $22.50-$25, are on sale at foundation-presents.com.
