Agency delivers food and essentials to seniors during COVID-19 pandemic

Jewish Community Services of South Florida launched a new program, JCS Delivers, to bring food and other essentials to homebound seniors throughout Miami-Dade County.

“Despite many businesses and locations reopening from COVID-19, many South Florida seniors are staying home, either by choice or by necessity, and JCS is providing services and access to nutrition and essential items,” said Miriam Singer, the agency’s president and chief executive officer, in a news release.

“JCS Delivers and its staff members call each client for a list of needed food items and household essentials. Using an online platform, the order is placed and later delivered to the seniors’ doorstep,” she added.

So far, the program has about 40 clients, and the agency is hoping to expand it. Since the pandemic began, JCS’ Senior Services Division has implemented new programs to help seniors quarantine in their homes.
