WORK SESSION

When: Noon Wednesday, July 12

What: At this work session councilors will discuss the police commission annual report and vote on its 2024 and 2025 work plan. According to the report, police commissioners completed 10 of the 14 goals they set for themselves this year, including reviewing of the city's contract with CAHOOTS, updating its deescalation policy, and reviewing its mutual aid policy. Two goals: reviewing the criteria for arrest and reviewing the commission statement and bylaws, are in progress. Two goals: reviewing police use of chemicals and impact weapons, are on standby.

City council also will vote on a set of proposed changes to how city council operating agreements. Proposed changes include more flexibility on when work sessions happen and how long they last, and less time allowed for public forums but more time to sign up for them and public hearings.

Lane County Board of Commissioners

To attend: Board of Commissioner meetings begin at 9 a.m. in Harris Hall, 125 E 8th Ave., unless otherwise noted. Doors to Harris Hall open at 8:45 a.m.

To comment: When there's a chance to comment, individuals must register for the meeting to do so virtually. After registering, people will get information on how to attend.

Those who go to the meeting in person should sign up on the sign-in sheet located by the entry door.

There will be instructions during the meeting for speaking during public hearings and making public comments.

People also can email diana.jones@lanecountyor.gov with public comments by noon Monday. The subject line should include "PUBLIC COMMENT FOR MEETING DATE 07/18/2023."

MORNING SESSION

When: 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 11

What: Commissioners will hold a public hearing to hear feedback on a proposal to allow accessory dwelling units at rural residences. Then they will vote on allocating funds to St. Vincent De Paul to run shelters for families experiencing homelessness. Next they will vote on authorizing a grant application to the Oregon Department of Transportation to fund traffic enforcement. They also will vote on adopting a fair housing resolution so the county can apply for Community Development Block Grant money and on holding a public hearing on Aug. 1 for how to spend that money. Lastly, they will vote to give the county's Charter Review Committee authority to appoint someone to fill the committee's vacant seat.

TOWN HALL

When: 3 p.m. Sunday, July 16

What: U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley will hold a town hall where community members can ask questions.

To comment: People who want to ask a question can get a ticket at the door. Tickets will be pulled at random over the hour-long town hall and people with selected tickets can ask questions.
