THE AGENDA: Staunton Crossing, Parks & Rec, Library Advisory, Electoral Board

Three new public hearings are highlighted in the agenda packet for the Staunton Planning Commission's Thursday night meeting.

The first involves the rezoning of over 100 acres owned by the Staunton Economic Development Authority. According to the agenda packet, "In 2013, The Staunton Economic Development Authority acquired the 3000-acre site which was the former location of Western State Hospital. Wester State moved from this location to its new location on Valley Center Drive. In 2016 the front 25 acres was sold to Staunton Crossing Partners, LLC, which has developed most of the property into two hotels, several fast-food restaurants, and convenience and retail stores. Now, the City and the Virginia Department of Transportation is constructing an extension of Crossing Way that will connect Richmond Avenue with Valley Center Drive. The eastern border of the property to be rezoned, follows the path of the road extension."

The staff recommends the rezoning from B-2, General Business District, to I-1, Light Industrial District.

Another public hearing seeks to eliminate the minimum acreage required for a parcel to be added to an Agricultural-Forestral District. This appears just before the introduction of a request to add 46.5 acres to the city's Agricultural-Forestral Districts.
