Agents of SHIELD star's new ITV drama confirms release date

Agents of SHIELD star Iain De Caestecker's new ITV drama The Winter King has confirmed a release date.
Directed by Peaky Blinders' Otto Bathurst, the medieval drama, which is based on The Warlord Chronicles book series by Bernard Cromwell, is set for release on December 21 on ITVX.
Episodes 1-5 will be made available on December 21 followed closely by episodes 6-10 which are set for release on December 27.
Described as a "bold and revisionist take" on the famous Arthurian legends, the series will follow Arthur Pendragon as he evolves from an outcast to a legendary leader.

"This series is set in the fifth century in a brutal land of warring factions and tribes where lives were often fleeting and follows Arthur Pendragon as he evolves from being an outcast and becomes a legendary warrior and leader," reads the synopsis.
Starring as Arthur Pendragon himself is Agents of SHIELD's Iain De Caestecker. He is joined by The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe star Eddie Marsan who plays High King Uther, and I May Destroy You's Ellie James who plays Nimue.
Joining them are I Hate Suzie's Nathaniel Martello-White as Merlin, Rogue Heroes star Stuart Campbell as Derfel, The Crown actor Daniel Ings as Owain, The Fall's Valene Kane as Morgan, Mammals star Jordan Alexandra as Guinevere, and Good Omens' Simon Merrells as Gundleus.

The ensemble cast includes Steven Elder, Andrew Gower, Aneirin Hughes, Emily John, Tatjana Nardone, Ken Nwosu, and Billy Postlethwaite.
Back in July we were treated to a series of first-look images of the series which depicted De Caestecker in character as a young Arthur along with his warrior friends Sagramor (played by Ken Nwosu, and Lanval (played by Matt Mella).
Also pictured in the first-look images were Kane as Arthur's half-sister Morgan, Campbell as Derfel, and Olumide Olorunfemi as Lunete along with others.
The Winter King premieres on December 21 on ITVX.
