Ahead of Big Ten action, Rutgers men’s lacrosse keeps rolling with impressive road win

Rutgers men’s lacrosse continues to roll, an 11-5 win at UMass just the latest strong result for the Scarlet Knights.

Since a 14-13 loss at Army on February 18, Rutgers has won five in a row. Saturday’s win at UMass was impressive after the Scarlet Knights shook off a slow and sluggish start.

Down 3-2 after the first quarter, Rutgers answered back. Ross Scott’s two goals were part of a second quarter where Rutgers scored five unanswered goals to stamp a commanding 7-3 lead at halftime.

The Scarlet Knights came into the weekend ranked sixth in the nation according to Inside Lacrosse, up one spot from the week prior. UMass was receiving votes in the poll but unranked.

The Big Ten is the heavyweight of college lacrosse with four top 10 teams in last week’s poll. The ACC has three teams in the top 10 – with all three teams ranked atop the poll (No. 1 Virginia, No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 3 Duke).

The Big Ten’s inclusion in the Inside Lacrosse rankings:

No. 4 Maryland

No. 5 Penn State

No. 6 Rutgers

No. 10 Johns Hopkins

No. 14 Ohio State

No. 20. Michigan

Rutgers starts their Big Ten schedule on Sunday at Ohio State.
